The Meaning of 'Kia Ora'

Kia Ora is a phrase in te reo Māori, the language of Māori in Aotearoa New Zealand.

While often used as a simple hello, Kia Ora carries a depth that goes far beyond a greeting. In Māori culture, words are believed to hold mana, a life force and energy that give them power and meaning.

Kia = may you, or be
Ora = life, health, wellbeing

Together, Kia Ora is both a welcome and a blessing: have life, be well.

At Kia Ora Safety Beach, Kia Ora is both our welcome and our wish for every guest. We hope your time here makes space for connection and supports your life, health and wellbeing.

Our Story

The vision behind Kia Ora Safety Beach grew from our passion of travelling with our son in a wheelchair and the challenges of finding suitable accessible accomodation especially ones with a ceiling hoist. It has inspired our dream to create a wheelchair accessible beach house - a place where families like ours can enjoy a relaxing getaway. We understand how important and valuable it is to have a break from busy day to day life.

We hope that you will enjoy this place as much as we do. Having experienced firsthand the difficulties of finding suitable and comfortable spaces that genuinely cater to high wheelchair needs, the vision for Kia Ora Safety Beach was born. It's more than just a holiday house to us, its a cherished home that we want to share with others. It's a thoughtfully designed home created to remove barriers and offer a welcoming and inclusive environment where families and individuals of all abilities can comfortably stay
